QUESTIONS

The questions we hear most — about how we work, what we build, and what to expect. If yours isn't here, write to us; a design partner reads every message.

WORKING WITH US

Where does Weaver Design Studio take on projects?

Our studio is based in Pune, and most of our work is in and around the city. We also take on select projects in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, particularly farmhouse estates and full-home interiors where our involvement spans design through execution.

Do you handle both design and execution?

Yes. We design everything we build and stay on site until it is built as drawn. Execution is carried out by our long-standing network of carpenters, civil contractors, fabricators and horticulturists — teams we have worked with across many projects, under our supervision at every stage.

We live abroad. Can we do this remotely?

Many of our clients are families returning to India or managing a project from overseas. We run a structured remote process: video walkthroughs at every milestone, shared drawing sets, weekly photo documentation and a single point of contact in the studio. Several of our homes were approved room by room over video calls before the family ever stood in them.

How long does a typical project take?

A full-home interior typically runs six to ten months from first meeting to handover, depending on scale and the level of custom work. Landscapes vary more — a terrace garden may take eight to twelve weeks, while an estate landscape is planned across seasons, because planting has its own calendar.

How do you charge?

We work on a transparent design fee, discussed openly at the first meeting once we understand the scope. We are a design-led studio rather than a volume business — we take on a limited number of projects at a time so each one gets the studio's full attention.

INTERIOR DESIGN

What is your interior design style?

Premium minimalism with warmth — restrained material palettes, generous natural light, and detailing that rewards a second look. We design homes that feel calm and grow more beautiful with age, whether the language is contemporary or rooted in traditional Indian craft.

Can you renovate a home we have lived in for decades?

Renovation is some of our most valued work. We begin by cataloguing what deserves to stay — original teak, stone floors, furniture with history — then rebuild the services and comfort around them: wiring, waterproofing, lighting, accessible bathrooms and kitchens. The home keeps its memory and gains another few decades.

Do you design furniture and joinery, or use catalogues?

Nearly all joinery and much of the loose furniture in our projects is designed by the studio and made by our carpenters. This is a core difference from catalogue-driven firms: your home is drawn for your rooms, your rituals and your proportions — not assembled from a modular menu.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN

What does 'sustainable landscape design' mean in practice?

It means the site's existing life is the starting point, not an obstacle. We retain existing trees wherever possible, plant predominantly native species, harvest rainwater into the soil through swales and recharge pits, and avoid materials that seal the ground. A Weaver landscape should need less water and less maintenance every year, not more.

Can you design for a terrace or balcony, not just plots?

Yes — terrace gardens are a dedicated practice area. We design within structural load limits, use lightweight soil systems, wind-tolerant planting and automated drip irrigation, so a twelfth-floor terrace can be as alive as a ground garden.

Will you work around the trees already on our site?

We would rather design around a mature tree than replace it with anything. On sloped or wooded sites we survey every significant tree first and let their positions shape the plan — several of our best spaces exist because a tree was allowed to stay exactly where it was.

Do you maintain the landscape after handover?

Every landscape is handed over with a season-by-season care calendar, and we schedule reviews through the first year — a garden is not finished at handover, it is started. For estate projects we can arrange ongoing horticultural supervision with our partner teams.
