MINIMALIST BAVDHAN SECOND HOME
Bavdhan, Pune — 2023
The Walkthrough
A weekend retreat within the city, stripped back to its essentials to create a space of absolute calm.
THE BRIEF
Conceived as a weekend retreat without leaving the city limits, the clients wanted a space stripped of all visual noise. They asked for absolute calm — an exercise in subtraction.
THE SITE
A spacious 2,500 sq ft apartment in Bavdhan. The original floor plan was highly compartmentalized, chopping the beautiful total square footage into small, restrictive boxes.
THE CHALLENGES
Achieving 'absolute calm' requires flawless execution. When a space is stripped back to just a few materials — like lime plaster and teak — there is nowhere to hide poor workmanship. Additionally, opening up the space required careful structural validation before removing non-load-bearing walls.
THE SOLUTION
We removed every non-structural wall to create a single, flowing living space. The entire apartment is finished in a seamless lime plaster, softening the acoustics and bouncing light beautifully. Tactile linen and solid teak furniture ground the airy spaces, proving that minimalism can be incredibly warm.
It's the ultimate palate cleanser. A few hours here feels like a week-long vacation.
